What Future Quantitative Social Science Research Could Look Like: Confidence Intervals for Effect Sizes
نویسنده
چکیده
Thus, editorial policies at 19 journals now formally require effect size reporting (cf. McLean & Kaufman, 2000; Murphy, 1997; Snyder, 2000), including two journals circulated to more than 50,000 persons (i.e., the flagship journals of the American Counseling Association and the Council for Exceptional Children). Additional journals have plans to announce similar requirements this year. Furthermore, in response to Task Force recommendations, the 2001 APA Publication Manual now notes that

Meta-analysis of the use of narrative exposure therapy for the effects of trauma among refugee populations.
BACKGROUND Narrative therapies, especially narrative exposure therapy, are used to treat the effects of trauma in refugees and to prevent psychiatric illness. These methods involve helping the person to tell the story of what happened to them until it no longer elicits anxiety. METHODS We reviewed all quantitative studies related to narrative exposure methods for treating trauma or posttrauma...

متن کاملConfidence Intervals for Standardized Effect Sizes: Theory, Application, and Implementation
The behavioral, educational, and social sciences are undergoing a paradigmatic shift in methodology, from disciplines that focus on the dichotomous outcome of null hypothesis significance tests to disciplines that report and interpret effect sizes and their corresponding confidence intervals. Due to the arbitrariness of many measurement instruments used in the behavioral, educational, and socia...
متن کاملInvasive Plant Researchers Should Calculate Effect Sizes, Not P-Values
Null hypothesis significance testing (NHST) forms the backbone of statistical inference in invasive plant science. Over 95% of research articles in Invasive Plant Science and Management report NHST results such as P-values or statistics closely related to P-values such as least significant differences. Unfortunately, NHST results are less informative than their ubiquity implies. P-values are ha...
متن کاملClimate Virtues Ethics: A Proposal for Future Research
Climate virtue ethics points to the subjective/personal dimensions of climate ethics, which have been largely neglected by previous research. There is a lot of research from diverse fields that pertains to the cultural and the individual dimensions that come along with climate virtue ethics, but, as of yet, these dimensions have hardly been examined together.
